What Makes You an Expert?

An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made, in a narrow field.
Niels Bohr

For some of us, it is hard to claim the title of expert.  But, when you look at the sum total of what you do, there are certain aspects in which you have “seen it all” or in which there really is no more to know.

For many of us, there is more to study before we will be an expert in what we want to excel at. We have a series of skills but need more knowledge or experience to truly claim the title for the expertise we desire. That should only slow as down, not stop us – gain that knowledge (now that you know what it is that drives you).

Knowing what that expertise is, is the most important step. When we know where our passion lies, we need only read more, work more, find a mentor, interview other experts and practice.

There are compelling reasons to clearly define your niche; it is easy to understand and communicate a niche and very easy for your ideal client to self-identify.

You may not be THE expert in nutrition but you may have developed an expertise with post-menopausal women experiencing depression. See the difference? See how easy it is to find a market that recognizes that they are your target with the niched description? (Now just imagine how much easier it is to dominate search results in Google with such specific keywords!)

At the heart of any expert is a passion for solving a specific set of problems
